Before you buy whole life insurance, ask yourself if you really need it. Most people don’t need life insurance coverage for a lifetime. People have the most need for insurance when they are young because of financial obligations, most of which reduce over time. That’s why term life insurance, which provides coverage for a fixed period of time, works really well for most people.

As far as the “investment” component of a whole life insurance policy is concerned, the returns are not as good as what you would get on other tax-deferred investment schemes.
