Can I insure a debtor?

A friend borrowed money from me. She has not been able to pay it back. If she were to die, I doubt her relatives would pay me out of her estate and I doubt that she has made provisions for this in her will, if she has one. Can I take out an insurance policy on her, without asking her?

How about her insurance? Does she write you as the beneficiary?

I don't even know if she has insurance. This is not something I can discuss with her without hysterics.

You cannot insure her, unless she consents to it.
