I’m newly married and think it may be wise to purchase life insurance for me and my husband because you never know what could happen. I have got an advice that term insurance would be best for us. What term is sufficient? 20 years? 30 years? How much coverage? When we buy a home and start having a family is it easy to increase our coverage? Any advice you have is appreciated.
A 30-year term plan would be ideal in your case. As you are young and there is a good chance that you will have financial obligations like mortgages, kids’ education fees, loans, etc to pay off along the way.
To make sure you are covered for as long as possible opt for a term policy that gives you the option to convert or renew when the term ends. You will need to periodically review you life insurance needs, and purchase an additional policy if required.
For now, the best place to start is online insurance agencies that will guide you with unbiased, honest advice, and help you get very affordable life insurance quotes. Life insurance 101 is a great resource to learn more about the types of life insurance.

The type of policy that you would need for your family depends on many factors. Things such as your mortgage, income needs, car loans, funeral expenses, etc.
You need to figure out when you plan on having your debts paid off and how much money you would need to survive if something unexpected were to happen to either you or your spouse.
This is something that an insurance professional can do for free with you with financial software. If you are in Springfield, OH I could help you put something together. If not I could direct you to another person who could. Email me at heather.clum@case.edu
